It's All In a Name

Several people have asked me how I came up with The Black Widow Agency for a title. Honestly, I didn't and because I like to give credit where credit is due, I'll tell the story for the record.

I was chatting with a friend who is a detective at the department I work at. She casually mentioned that when she retired, she might want to open up her own private investigative agency. She identified several women who she would employ as her investigators and half-jokingly said I would handle all of the computer investigations. Immediately, something began to click in my head. Then, she nailed the final nail when she said, "And you know what I'd call it? The Black Widow Agency." As soon as I heard the words, my mind began to spin. I doubt I heard anything beyond that because the concept of women who had been wronged reaching out to help other women immediately began to take shape. I could see the women, unlike her group, from all walks of life - young, old, social, anti-social. The seeds were planted and within a few days, I had mapped out all of the main characters in my mind. It was a spark to a fire that could not be put out until I put it all down. Two days later, I went back to my friend and asked her if I could use that as a title. And so the series was born.

Thanks, Krissy. I owe you (again). Keep those ideas coming...
